| FOOTBALL: Signing off |

Looks like this blog has been good therapy for some folks tonight. Remember this is a family blog.
It was an interesting day of college football. USC flexed its muscles, LSU didn't blink and Arkansas came storming back.
How about that huge loss by UCLA, and when is the last time Tennessee gave up 59 points?
Matt must have used that score and Ole Miss' recent defensive success to predict the Rebels' 103-0 loss to the Gators this week.
I see Missouri scored 52 points tonight, but Chase Daniel only completed 60.9 percent of his passes and threw two picks.

PA, Hope these coaches have their job resume's up todate. Jimmy Barbee
Ok PA, I need an honest opinion and an opinion from anyone else that reads this.
Will Ole Miss keep Orgeron around after losing last night, and if this game doesn't do it for Petey boy, what will?
Personally, I don't think that the loss to Vandy will get him fired (since it was away makes it not as bad) but I do think that if Ole Miss cannot get an SEC win or if they lose to one of the high school teams we have to play, or God forbid both, then he will definately be shown the door.
I'm very curious to how others feel to this so please respond.
And I do apologize for my rants and ravings last night, but if I wasn't able to vent that somehow in words, then I would have vented my fist through the wall.

I don't think this is Ed's make or break year -- unless it gets no better from last night's game.
Personally, I think they'll improve a little as the year goes on. They did last year. The question is will they improve enough to win games? Probably not very many.
However, every time Pete discusses the football program he emphasizes patience in rebuilding it.
I personally think next year is Ed's big year.
I think the only thing that might lead to a change this year is if the team begins going backward from last night, and fans stop buying tickets and contributing.

Well I hope my lack of contribution in the future will be one of many to help get someone's attention. I don't think he'll be fired this year, not saying he doesn't deserve it. How long can you search for a "signature" win, and how long can you get beat by inferior programs and still keep a job? I'm not so frustrated in the fact that we lost last night, it's how we got beat. We obviously got outcoached, there were holes the size of mack trucks out there for that Casson Jackson Garrison guy to run all over us. We made them look like the Baltimore Raven defense, and if you take away the 2 deep balls, we don't score a touchdown in that game. Enough is enough....I've had it with this program. We can't win big games, we can't win the games we "should" win, what can we do???

We need a COACH that can win football games. Not about recruiting, motivating, speaking, etc. etc., it's about a coach that can WIN GAMES! It all started last year with Shaefer being named QB and not in drills.(what a joke) Recruit MISSISSIPPI players! Not USC wanna be players. I would clean house at Ole Miss and get a coach that really cares about the football team and the University. If that means bringing in a coach that has ties to the program, I say go for it! PA, any coach out there that has ties to the Ole Miss football team?

It'll be affected next weekend. Almost nobody will go to the game, and the people who do will be back in the grove by halftime. It's going to be sad to see the stadium filled up with orange and blue. Thought hiring thompson would be a good thing, but it's looking obvious why spurrier showed him the door so quickly. How many points does florida have to score before he gets fired, for the second time by an sec school before the seasons over. I'm betting 70.

PA, I watched the entire Tennessee - Florida game. Florida's offense is impressive. Ole Miss won't even slow them down. Expect Tebow to have a career day this coming Saturday. Of course, it is not unusual for opponents to have career days against the Rebels. You think a loss to Vandy was embarrassing...well, at least no one cared, so there was little national media attention. BUT, this week will be different playing the Gators. Imagine how embarrassing it will be to see the score every two minutes roll across the screen and repeated highlights of Florida's pasting of the Rebels. Early prediction - Florida 63 UM 0.

C'mon No Handle. It's only Week 3. Are you giving up? Remember 2002? That Florida team was ranked No. 8 I think, and the Rebels pulled the upset.

Yeah, I remember that 2002 team. We were 5-0 going into that game and we had Eli Manning playing QB. I ran out on the field and congratulated every DEFENSIVE PLAYER I saw. We won 17-14, but we were down at the half, 14-2. We don't have a defense remotely close to that squad's team, a team that still finished 7-6 and an Indy Bowl win, right?
So is Adams really hurt? What is the extent? Does anyone know? Watching the O show, you are less informed than when you turn it on. That guy makes your IQ go down just watching him. I realize I'm critical, but at what point do you start taking some responsibility for YOUR JOB. You can't keep tipping your darn hat to the other team for coming out and kicking the crap out of you. "Vandy really took it to us all night on both sides of the football." - Really, I could have looked at the boxscore and figured that out Einstein. Am I missing something here? All my friends around here say the only hope I have is rooting for somebody else. I just can't give up on my alma mater, it's harder than that. Seriously, once you go somewhere, you feel like there's a part of it flowing through your blood. Unfortunately for me, whatever is in there is detrimental to my health and attitude, usually by 9 PM on Saturdays.

I don't know the extent of Adams' injury and I expect no enlightenment at Monday's press conference.
I completely understand your take on how hard it is to give up on Alma Mater U.
My school changed its name, changed its mascot, altered its color scheme and I still find myself looking for scores to see how the Indian/Warhawks of Northeast Louisiana/La. Monroe did.

I gotta agree with nohandle, saturday could turn in to one of the worst blow outs in ole miss history. I mean we are talking about a team that put up 59 points on TN. That's a huge number to put up on a TN team, even one that has a mediocre defense.
It's gonna be quite a show. I'll be there to see it first hand. If Seth is back at QB we might manage a TD or two but it's still gonna be horrendous. Can you say run the score up. My early pick:
Florida-66 (they'll kick a field goal after 3rd string comes in) UM-14
Maybe this number will change by the end of the week, but I doubt it. Maybe Tebow will fall down some steps this week at school, break an ankle or something

I'm with both of you on this one. We haven't planned buying Fourth of July fireworks yet but we might want to record the video of Tebow highlights after this one and that might suffice. I don't even plan on leaving the grove in order to see what our offense will do. It is too depressing to witness anymore of Schaefer's passes as they skip on the ground 2 feet in front of the receiver. Bring on LA Tech...can't wait to see the betting spread on that one.

Even if Tebow falls down stairs and lands on the second and third string quarterbacks, this will be ugly. They could bring in a second string running back that played qb in jr. high and still put up 60 points on us. I am not kidding. It might as well be Ole Miss vs. The New England Patriots. They won't even bother illegally taping us either. I don't understand how we have supposedly been bringing in all these great recruiting classes for the last 3 years and Saturday night is what we have to show for it. Something is horribly wrong.
It occurs to me that losing to Vandy might be a clue. We know their players aren't dumb. But they haven't had anything close to a top recruiting class. I doubt if they spend months (or years) trying to get their player eligible. Could it be that we have great athletes that just are not smart enough to play the game? Or at least the game the way our coaches have set it up? If a kid can't read or do simple math, is he going to be able to figure out which blitzing defender he's supposed to pick up?
I think we need to look at programs like Boise State and Utah. They are using lesser athletes, but achieving a whole lot more. Of course they don't have to play Florida, LSU, Bama, Arkansas... But that is a whole different subject that I don't think Ole Miss fans are ready to deal with yet. We'll never be able to compete in our conference other than the occasional once in a lifetime season (any Manning grandchildren yet?). But we could probably win the Big East every 4 or 5 years and Conference USA every 2 or 3. Just a thought, don't heckle me to death! I'd just like to experience the occasional conference championship game. It's not like we would be giving up a shot at a BCS bowl. I don't see that ever happening while we are in the SEC.

Ask any Memphis fan- it's better to finish last in the SEC than first in CUSA. They hate it, not being in the Supreme conference. We would be giving up Millions. I know it sucks, but it's worth it to the program. We've got to stay focused on what a school like us can offer - competing in smaller sports like Basketball and Baseball. I'm with you that we can't compete in football, it still stinks, but I don't think getting out of the conference is the best answer. Finding a better coaching staff is.
